IceAk S02 –
THE VACANT VALLEY
Highlights: Off-Roading, crossing a river on a ford, exploring an old turf farm and a traditional country side church.
Do you want to experience a bit of Off-Road trailing mixed with sightseeing and history? Then this is the tour for you.
On this tour we will first take you on an exciting Super Jeep Off-Road journey into the vacated valley Barkárdalur where we follow a rough 4x4 trail to the old farmers turf house Baugasel. Baugasel was the last occupied farm in the valley and didn't get abandoned until 1965. Here we will have a good opportunity to enjoy the peacefulness of this beautiful valley, study the old turf houses and learn a little of the local history. On the way there you will get to see the nice hidden waterfall Féeggstaðafoss and to cross a river on a ford.
On the way back to Akureyri we will take you on a different road where we will stop by the traditional Icelandic country side church at Möðruvellir built in 1867, if we are lucky then the church is open and we can go inside and take a closer look at it.
To finalize the tour we take you up to Fálkafell, a great view point above Akureyri where you can enjoy views over the town and fjord.
